Nick and Amy

Hi! We’re Nick and Amy, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to learn more about us.

We live in Portland, Oregon, and are excited to grow our family through open adoption. The idea of expanding our family in a way that embraces love, connection, and openness is something we both deeply value. We met online in October 2020 and had our first date and got to know each other over Thai fried chicken and roti. Since then, we’ve embarked on many adventures, including spring break road trips along the coast, exploring cities in America, and hiking in the Rockies. In 2023, we bought a home in a beautiful and family
focused neighborhood, and last summer, we got married in Manhattan.

Amy is the principal of an alternative high school, where she is passionate about creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment for students who have struggled in traditional settings. She works every day to ensure that her school is a place where all students—especially those from marginalized backgrounds— feel seen, valued, and empowered. Her work in diversity and equity is at the heart of what she does, advocating for policies and programs that address racial disparities and create real opportunities for her students.

Nick works in the tech industry as a creative problem-solver, building 3D worlds and mentoring his team. His journey has shaped his deep sense of gratitude and empathy—having experienced homelessness as a young adult, he has been sober for the last 26 years. These experiences have given him a strong appreciation for stability, resilience, and the power of love and support in building a meaningful life. He carries those lessons into his relationships, his work, and his approach to parenting.

Amy grew up in a small town in Oregon, surrounded by a large extended family, and has always known she wanted to work in education. She’s thoughtful, strong, and independent, with a deep commitment to helping others. Nick was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area in a big, loving Chinese-American family. He’s creative, curious, and loves to cook—something that won Amy over when they were dating.

We are already parents to Amy’s teenage daughter, Darla, and it has been amazing to build a strong, supportive, and loving home together. Our family also includes our dog, Hank, and a lively group of backyard chickens. In our free time, we love cooking together, traveling, listening to music, and watching movies. Amy is an avid reader and enjoys mid-century modern design, while Nick is passionate about photography and music. We enjoy hosting family and friends, whether it’s a book club or a backyard barbecue.

When we talked about what we envisioned for our future, we both felt that adoption was the right path for us. We believe love makes a family, and we are ready to welcome a child into our lives with open hearts. Openness is important to us because we want our child to feel surrounded by love—not just from us, but from their birth family as well. We believe that maintaining a connection with their roots, culture, and identity is incredibly valuable. Every adoption story is unique, and we are open to finding the right balance of communication and connection that works for everyone involved.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We look forward to this journey and the possibility of meeting you.
