Adoptee resources

Adoptees should have ongoing access to information, resources, and support—because adoption is a lifelong experience and not a one-time event. It might also be important to some adoptees that they build community with others who “get it.”

Here are some resources for adoptees.

OA&FS resources for adoptees

Join our monthly virtual adoptee affinity group! OA&FS adoptee and board member Nathan Faust hosts a monthly virtual adult adoptee affinity group. Learn more and register here.

Connect with others online. OA&FS also has a private Facebook group for adoptees. You can join here.

Support groups and connection opportunities for adoptees

Adoption Savvy. This group meets virtually on the first Thursday of each month from 6 pm to 7:30 pm PT. The cost is $45 per group. Contact group facilitator Amy Barker (an adult adoptee) for more details or to RSVP: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

C.A.S.E. adult adoptee support group. Tony Hynes hosts this ongoing monthly group on Zoom for the Center for Adoption Support and Education. Learn more and register here.

Adoptees Connect. This is a peer-led, adoptee-centric connect group for adult adoptees. Find a group near you.

The Adoptee Mentoring Society. The Adoptee Lounge is designed for adoptees to have a safe space to build community with other adoptees through guided facilitation. Lounges are offered to adoptees between the ages of 12-16, 17-22 and 23 and up. The Adoptee Mentoring Society also offers one-on-one mentorship.

Finding an adoption-competent therapist

Adoptee therapist directory. It can feel important for your therapist to directly understand your lived experience. This directory from Grow Beyond Words includes U.S. mental health professionals who are also adoptees.

C.A.S.E. accredited therapists. This is a national directory of therapists who have completed the Training for Adoption Competency (TAC) program through the Center for Adoption Support and Education.

Healing the Adoption Constellation. This database from Unraveling Adoption includes coaches, psychotherapists, hypnotherapists, art therapists, and others who work with members of the adoption constellation.

Search and reunion resources

Washington Adoption Reunion Movement. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to reuniting families separated by adoption. The organization specializes in Washington state and also has cooperation with the Superior Courts in a number of other states.

DNAngels. This nonprofit search angel organization is dedicated to the assistance of individuals seeking to identify their biological parent(s) using DNA interpretation, mapping, and extensive research.

Adoptee Reading. A collection of books written and recommended by adoptees.
Adoptee Voices. These writing groups are facilitated by fellow adoptees.
Adoption Mosaic. This adoptee-led organization hosts We The Experts panel discussions featuring adoptees on a variety of topics.
Dear Adoption. A collection of essays written by adoptees.
