Jason and Rachael

Hello! We are Jason and Rachael and we are excited to share a glimpse into our life.

We met in 2012 while volunteering at a summer camp in Oregon together and became close friends. Over the years our friendship developed into a fun-filled and loving relationship and marriage. We have been married for seven years and are hoping to expand our family through open adoption.

We hope to create a family that is centered on love, trust, respect, and openness. Open adoption is something that both of us feel drawn to because we see such an importance in the holistic view of a person. We want our child’s birth family to feel welcomed and valued within our family. We want to honor and celebrate all of who our child is, where they come from, and all the people who make them who they are and hope our child can build meaningful connections with all members of their family. Our desire is to raise a child who feels confident, unconditionally loved, safe, empowered, and known.

We have 15 nieces and nephews, 7 of which live in Oregon just a short drive away, who we love investing in and getting to know and watch grow up. One of our favorite annual traditions is having a sleepover with Rachael’s brother’s four daughters and taking them on a day trip with a different adventure each year. Both of us have had a love for spending time and engaging with children for decades and as we’ve watched our older siblings’ kids grow, so has our shared dream of raising a family together.

We live in a mid-sized town in Western Oregon where Jason was born and raised. He is a steadfast and caring guy who gets to express his creativity through his job as an engineer and in his down time through woodworking and 3D printing. He may not be the loudest person in the room but his wit and humor will surprise you…if you’re close enough to hear.  Rachael on the other hand you can’t miss! You can hear her laugh or burst into song from anywhere in the house. She exudes joy and her contagious energy makes her someone people love having around. She’s not only the life of the party but cares deeply for those around her, which is on full display in her job as a nurse where she gets the opportunity to show up for her patients during a stressful time in their lives.

Some of the things we love to do together are play board games (we have 137 and counting) because it allows for spending time together while promoting conversation; we enjoy experiencing nature through kayaking, biking and camping. Traveling is something we love to do together because it creates lasting memories and allows us to experience different cultures. We have a shared love of sports, hockey being our favorite, and we have enjoyed following our team (Go Oilers!) to different arenas across the continent where we get to watch a sport we love and also discover new cities along the way. We value surrounding ourselves with a broad community, from within our church to friends and family. We spend time with both sides of our family on a regular basis and cherish being so close and sharing our lives with one another.

Thanks for taking the time to get to know us!
