Jessica and Wayne
Hello! We are Jessica and Wayne.
We hope that you are well and would like to acknowledge that this could be a sensitive process for everyone. We envision that you will find what is right for you.
We met in 2007 when Wayne took a rowing class that Jessica was coaching. Wayne was drawn to Jessica’s bright and wide smile, fire and passion, kind and giving spirit and her amazing blue eyes. Jessica was drawn to Wayne’s listening ear, kindness, sense of humor, work ethic and his great smile. We spent the early years of falling in love talking, sailing, traveling, eating great food and getting a puppy!
Jessica is a deep thinking and feeling person with an incredibly silly and imaginative side. She cares immensely for people and the environment and loves to bring passion both to projects and fun. She understands loss and anxiety from personal experience and values the connections and growth that can sprout from these challenges. Jessica is a musician and volunteer, and has been a coach, teacher and interpreter in the past. She has degrees in Sociology, Spanish and Songwriting and is a lifelong learner.
Wayne is a kindhearted, generous, and gentle person with a great sense of humor and pragmatism. He brings logic, empathy, love, and great one-liners into tough situations. He enthusiastically learns new things and humbly works on himself in order to put his best foot forward in relationships. Wayne works for a non-profit healthcare system using his software engineering skills to help others have better and easier access to healthcare. He has a degree in Computer Science and loves to always be learning.
As a couple, we have talked, worried, dreamt, argued, and laughed about the thought of having a family. Both of us are very connected to our families, our nieces and nephews and our friends’ families. We value family and community. Many stones were turned over to discover that adoption felt right for our journey. Despite moments of being scared, we value the opportunity to potentially welcome a child and their birth family into our lives.
We were drawn to an open adoption because we feel that it’s in the best interest of a child to have as much of a connection to their birth family, culture and heritage as possible. We appreciate that the birth family will have its own beliefs and needs around this, and that navigating the connections will be an important learning process for everyone involved. We value grace and practice.
In our free time, we love hanging with friends and family, being in nature, and enjoying what Seattle and the PNW have to offer. We love being active outside as well as snuggling on the couch with a good show. If we are chosen to raise a child, we hope to share our interests with them as well as encourage the exploration of their own passions along the way.
We hope to raise a child with values such as honesty, openness, emotional safety, kindness, clear communication, respect (for self, others, nature), diversity, creativity, hard work, community, self-determination, education and fun! We value our diverse community and are glad that a child raised by us would be exposed to people diverse in age, race, gender identity and sexual orientation.
Hopefully, this letter has given you a window into us and our lives. If you are interested, we would be happy and honored to learn about you, share more about ourselves and answer any questions. Regardless, we hope you find your way on this journey with as much ease and support as possible.
Warm regards,
Jessica and Wayne (and Dela, our 15-year-old dog!)
