Bob and Es

Hello!

We are Bob & Es (aka Esther or Essie). We have been married since 2015, and share our lives with two lovely dogs, Ori & Afi.

We met while living in Kenya over a decade ago. Es is a physician, and was working at the time with a local non-profit organization on a school nutrition project. Bob is a security engineer and computer software developer, and he was based in Nairobi at the time for work. We met through an auspicious posting on Reddit by a close friend. A conversation that started in East Africa continued after we both moved back to the US. Eventually Bob moved to Arizona to be with Es as she finished her family medicine residency training. Less than two years after meeting, we were engaged, and then married a little over a year later in a small ceremony at a nature conservatory near our family in Baltimore, Maryland. We lived in Seattle for almost ten years before a job opportunity arose for Es, and we decided to move to the Midwest.

These days we enjoy our life in the Twin Cities. We share many hobbies even as we enjoy those things that make us unique. We train in Jiu Jitsu together at least once a week. We both love music - Bob engages in music production and Es loves playing the piano, mountain dulcimer (made for her by Bob’s dad!), and guitar. We also seek out opportunities to share in exploring live music and theatre in town with our friends and family and enjoy walks with our pups around the beautiful trails, lakes, and parks near our house. We met while living abroad, and travel remains a big part of our lives (both for fun and due to Es’ work in global health).

Es loves to be outside or active as much as possible: she loves hiking and biking and gardening and travel. Bob tends more towards the indoors - his hobbies include sound design, board gaming, and video games.

We share similar values: we value honesty, integrity, creativity and curiosity. We hope that in parenting a child, above all else, we will raise them to be kind.

We have long been interested in growing our family through adoption, and hope to build a loving, trusting, and open relationship with our child’s birth family. We dream of creating a nurturing and supportive environment where a child can feel safe to explore the world and their own interests, grounded in compassion and care.
