Julia and Eddy
Hello! We are Julia and Eddy. Thank you for taking the time to learn about us. We both have wanted to be parents from a very young age, having grown up with very close-knit families.
A little about us: Eddy joined the Navy at 17 to help pay for college and to see the world. He served 8 years and graduated from a local community college. Julia studied for her undergrad and graduate degrees in the Pacific Northwest. We both have pursued careers aligned with our degrees that we enjoy.
We met in early 2021 and at the time Eddy was in the process of buying a house in Oregon. After some time, Julia, her dog and cat moved in with Eddy, his dog, and two roommates. At Christmas 2022 Eddy proposed to Julia through song in front of (and in collaboration with) her whole family. Spoiler: she said yes! We were married in June 2023 on a hazelnut farm with our family and friends in attendance. The roommates have since moved out and we now live happily in our home with our dogs Skjor and Riley and our cat Lola.
We enjoy many activities together such as cooking, movies, video games, board games, and music. Since we are geeks at heart, our wedding included many subtle – and not so subtle – movie and video game references. We also have individual hobbies we enjoy. Julia has a passion for crafting and thrives on making gifts for the people she loves. She dabbles in resin art, sticker making, papercrafts, yarn crafts, and so much more. She is also an avid reader and has recently discovered a love for audiobooks opening a whole world of crafting while listening to books. Eddy loves games and is often playing online games with his closest friends, many of whom live across the country. They often chat late into the night, long after they have finished gaming. He also attends game nights with friends locally where they spend hours laughing, joking, and playing a variety of tabletop games.
We started our relationship later in life so our path to building a family has always had adoption as an option, though we tried other routes first. During testing to begin IVF a mass was found in Julia’s uterus and a biopsy confirmed it was endometrial cancer. After surgery in May 2024, Julia continues to be in remission and doctors say she has a 98% chance of being cured. It was with this life event that we turned to adoption as our path towards building a family. We are excited to see where this journey takes us.
For us, an open adoption is one in which our child can thrive because they get the privilege of knowing their birth family and where they came from, as well as the love we can share together. Knowing who and where they come from, and celebrating that culture, will give our child a rich life and the roots they deserve. We are open to what level of openness all are most comfortable with, even if that changes over time. Our goal is to create a relationship based on mutual respect, honesty, and most importantly, love for our child. We welcome the involvement of all members of the birth family. In our minds, the more the child knows about who they are and where they come from, the better. And how wonderful for a child to know they have so many people in their lives who love them!
We promise to love our child and provide them every opportunity to be curious, funny, serious, adventurous, and to be who they are to the core, whoever that may be. We will provide a home where they can feel comfortable in their own skin. We honor authenticity, acceptance, and individuality and hope that we can share those values with our child and their birth family.
We wish you the best.
