Alyssa
Hi! My name is Alyssa. I live an active, fun, responsible lifestyle, and can’t wait to have a child to love, to teach, and to help grow and develop. I am hard working, dedicated, and loyal. My most treasured “things” in life are my relationships. I look forward to having a child join my family and all of the future adventures we will take on, together!
I have been in the field of education since 2003. My education and professional experience have allowed me to teach high school biology for 13 years before becoming an Assistant Principal for grades 9 and 10 in 2017. I was also the head coach of the volleyball program here at the high school for 11 years. I have been an athlete my whole life, and have not only loved being coached, but have loved my role in coaching others. I still feel a strong connection to being a coach in my current role as assistant principal; instead of coaching athletes on the court, I am often guiding the teachers and students with whom I work at school, and I find it very rewarding. I live in Northeastern Massachusetts, about 40 minutes north of Boston in a quiet residential neighborhood about three miles from the beach.
I have the most incredible network of family and friends. My parents and my sister are a huge part of my life. Additionally, I have a group of friends who are more like family to me. We met at work in 2007 as colleagues, and since then have become family. I’m sure its common to read that folks who are pursuing adoption have a great network behind them, but mine is truly top-notch! Your child will be welcomed into this loving, supportive, compassionate group of people, and they can’t wait for me to become a mom! I am so fortunate to be loved by all of them. We are together often, and I love my time with all of the kids. In fact, I find that I am happiest when I am with them. As you’ll see in my book, we have some special seasonal traditions. I have dated a few guys, but I never met my soulmate, and I’m not someone who just ‘settles’. I am still hopeful that I will meet the right person, someday soon.
While I am so thankful to be a part of such a supportive network of family and friends, I am also fiercely independent and self-motivated. I am proud to have purchased my own home in 2022, and enjoy working around the house. I have painted almost all of the inside walls, trim and ceilings and have done what seems like a million other projects to make it my own, as well as making it feel cozier and more welcoming. It was a lot of work but I have found it to be very fulfilling! I love to entertain, and enjoy having friends and family over often. I have had several themed parties at my house and really enjoy having some surprise events for the adults and kids alike. I love any outdoor activity – kayaking, sitting by the campfire, grilling good food, and taking care of my yard. I have added some new garden beds, and I don’t even mind weeding. I love to be outside in all weather! And so does my pup, Ryman, who I got in 2019 and is a dream that came true for me! I have always wanted to have, love and train a yellow lab, after my experience with our childhood yellow lab, Honey. And, she LOVES kids!
When I turned 40, after considering all of my options, I decided to pursue adoption. OA&FS’ emphasis on the connection between the birth family and adoptive family in an open adoption was paramount to how I view this relationship to be. For me, family is who you choose to spend your life with; who you support, and feel supported by, who you connect with, who you stand by and who stands by you in the worst of times and in the best of times. Because I define family this way, my child’s birth family would become an extension of my current family.
This quote really resonates with me as I feel that it illustrates this point;
“I believe that love isn’t divisible, it’s exponential.”
Warmly from the East coast!
Alyssa
