Reasons someone might consider planning an adoption

Imagine finding out you or a partner are pregnant at a time when your world feels unstable. Maybe you don’t have a consistent place to live or aren’t sure how you’ll afford rent next month. Maybe you’re healing from trauma. Maybe you are already parenting and having another child feels like too much. Maybe you don’t feel ready yet (or other people are telling you you’re not ready). Maybe you don’t ever want to be a parent.

This is often when adoption enters the conversation — not as an empowered choice, but as a constrained one.

Making an adoption plan can feel like a loving or responsible thing to do — and it’s a choice that is sometimes made after careful consideration. But all too often, it’s a decision shaped by fear, pressure, and lack of support.

By exploring some of the reasons someone might consider adoption, we can better understand the support and resources that could help them feel more empowered to truly weigh all their options. In the coming weeks, we’ll explore some of the reasons people might consider adoption. Each week, we’ll share a blog post where we examine one reason, starting next week when we will talk about financial pressure.
