Sean and Kyle
Hello! We’re Sean and Kyle, and we’re grateful for you taking the time to get to know us.
Our story together started at a house party in 2014. Kyle had just moved to Seattle; Sean had lived here for about two years. We were drawn to each other from the start, but it took a couple of months to have our first date: sandwiches and a movie. That date turned out to be the beginning of building a life together grounded in love, curiosity, and shared values.
Sean is a university professor who finds joy in teaching, mentoring, and conducting research that helps people manage their health. He also loves photography, especially capturing the beauty of nature. Kyle is a software engineer who works remotely and enjoys gardening, cooking with homegrown vegetables and herbs, and tinkering with computers. We both share a deep appreciation for nature—whether it’s hiking in the Cascades, tide pooling on the coast, or simply walking through our neighborhood parks.
Our home is filled with warmth, laughter, and a sense of calm. We love to cook together, explore new places, and spend time with friends and family. Our weekend routines include our neighborhood farmer’s market and visits to Seattle’s waterfront and parks. We might play board games or talk late into the night with friends. In addition to everyday joys, we enjoy visits to the San Juans, where we catch and cook a big seafood feast with friends. While the Pacific Northwest is home, we also love to travel to wander a new city or spend time together in mountains, deserts, or wherever the trail leads.
We also value our time with family and chosen family. We love our visits to Sean’s parents, brother, sister-in-law, and nieces in Las Vegas. Our oldest niece recruits us into impromptu dances and plays, and we’ve enjoyed her introducing us to her favorite swingsets, museum exhibits, nature preserve, ice cream shop, and library. Since Sean was in high school, he’s had a tradition of visiting friends for New Years for a few days of good food, board games, and catching up. We’ve maintained this as their families have grown and we’ve each moved around the country. After initial surprise at how intense a game of Catan can get, Kyle quickly took to this tradition too. These days, our visits also include hours of building towers and wooden trains with their young kids.
We’re excited to welcome a child into our lives and community. From when we first considered parenting, adoption seemed right for us, but we had a lot to learn. We were drawn to open adoption and the ways it can support a child’s sense of identity, belonging, and connection. A child should grow up knowing their story, their birth family, and that they are loved by many. We are committed to building a relationship with our child’s birth family that is grounded in honesty, trust, and mutual respect—one that continues to evolve to best support the child’s well-being and celebrate the birth family’s role in their life.
We look forward to providing a child with a nurturing, joyful, and supportive environment where they feel safe to explore who they are. We will encourage their curiosity, celebrate their uniqueness, and surround them with love, laughter, and opportunity. We hope to share with them the wonder of nature, the joy of baking pies, the comfort of bedtime stories, and the strength of a community that embraces them fully.
Thank you again for taking the time to learn about us!
