Becca and Steph
Hi! We’re Becca and Steph. Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We’re excited to share who we are and the kind of parents we hope to become.
We like to say we found each other on the internet. Becca swiped right on a dating app and sent Steph a dorky compliment about her rolled-up jeans. Our first date lasted for four hours, and by the end we both knew we clicked. Steph brought steadiness and a sense of adventure, and Becca brought warmth and ease. From the beginning, we realized something important: we stay on the same team, even when life gets messy. That foundation has shaped everything about our life together.
Five years of togetherness later, we had the camping wedding of our dreams along the Illinois Valley River with 100 friends and family. We ate pie instead of cake, danced to a Fleetwood Mac cover band, and gifted handwritten letters to each guest. It was a day we wish we could bottle up, and we often imagine what it would feel like to recreate it with a child or two running through it all.
Today, we live in Portland, Oregon, in a bright home with a blue door, a backyard with room for play, and a vegetable garden. We enjoy big family camping trips, everyday adventures, hanging with our pup Hobie, and hunting for the best desserts in town. Becca works as a counselor in a diverse public high school and loves supporting students through both hard and meaningful moments. Steph is a Veteran and former Army paratrooper who now works in physical therapy, helping people through healing and recovery. We both feel grateful for work that connects us to our community.
Our home is often filled with music, the smell of sourdough baking in the oven, and Hobie following us from room to room, hoping for cuddles. Becca is usually in the kitchen trying out a new recipe, while Steph is lifting weights in our garage gym, hoping to sample whatever Becca is baking first. We love being close to parks, libraries, and good food (Thai and Mexican are our go-tos), but our favorite days are often the simplest: packing turkey sandwiches, finding a quiet spot by the river, and watching Hobie swim after sticks that are twice his size. We also travel to Southern Oregon often to spend time with our nieces and nephews, and those weekends always leave us feeling grounded and happy.
We feel very supported by our family and community and are lucky to have strong role models for the kind of parents we hope to be. We both naturally gravitate toward kids, whether it’s getting pulled into a backyard soccer game, listening to countless stories about middle school drama, or simply being the adults who get asked to play one more round. We’re excited for the everyday moments of parenting (family road trips, finger paints, new hobbies, cheering from the sidelines), and we feel ready for the harder seasons too. Most of all, we look forward to helping a child discover who they are, celebrating what makes them unique, and being the steady, dependable people they can always come home to. We know we’ll move through it all as a team, just like we always have.
We understand adoption begins with both love and loss, and we will always care for our child’s story with honesty and respect. We are committed to building and maintaining an open relationship with our child’s birth family, because we believe those connections are an essential part of who they are. We imagine staying connected not just through photos, texts, and calls, but through spending time truly getting to know one another. This might look like going out for ice cream, having picnics at the park, spending an afternoon exploring somewhere new, or creating special traditions together. Above all, we want our child to know they are deeply loved and that they will always have a team cheering them on, made up of both their birth family and ours.
We are truly grateful you took the time to learn about us. Wishing you all the best.
